The College of Veterinary Medicine uses selective admission procedures. Criteria for admission are determined by an Admissions Committee. Applicants are evaluated on academic profiles and certain non-cognitive factors including motivation, character, communication and interpersonal skills, personality, leadership ability, animal exposure, and knowledge of the profession. Please see criteria list below, however, specific requirements may change annually. It is the candidate's responsibility to know and comply with the correct procedures and guidelines for admission.
- Successful completion of required prerequisite courses with a C or better*
- Overall GPA, science/math GPA, and Last 45 quarter or semester hours**
- Minimum GRE of 1000 (verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing sections combined) or minimum MCAT of 24, O-TThree personal references (two must be from veterinarians)
- Minimum of 80 hours of work experience with one veterinarian

The College of Veterinary Medicine does not recommend any specific pre-professional or undergraduate degree program. Although a bachelor's degree is not a prerequisite for admission, prospective applicants are encouraged to enroll in degree programs of their choosing while taking the required pre-veterinary courses or their equivalents. **Overall grade-point average, prerequisite GPA and last 45 quarter or semester hours
Overall GPA: An applicant with an overall GPA of 2.8 or lower will not be considered. A competitive overall GPA is 3.5 or above. The most recent class overall GPA was 3.72.
Prerequisite GPA: A prerequisite GPA lower than 2.8 will not be considered. A competitive prerequisite GPA is 3.6 or above. The most recent incoming class had an average science/math GPA of 3.68.
GRE: An application with a GRE score lower than 1000 will not be considered. A competitive GRE score is 1200 or above. The average GRE for the most recent incoming class was 1247.
**Interview
The Admissions Committee will schedule interviews with selected applicants. A consultation for unsuccessful candidates is encouraged and is available by contacting the College of Veterinary Medicine Student Affairs at (614) 292-8831.
